Luminance 6901™ Colored Pencils and Sets
The most lightfast colored pencil Caran d’Ache makes. Soft, thick cores lay down dense, blendable color that burnishes to a near-paint finish, and the pigment selection is chosen for permanence rather than shelf appeal.

Luminance 6901 was developed for artists who need the work to still be there in fifty years. The pigments are selected first for permanence, then balanced into a range that covers portrait, landscape and botanical palettes without forcing the artist to mix around a gap.
The soft core means color goes down in fewer passes, which keeps paper tooth intact for later layers. Because the binder is wax rather than oil, the surface takes burnishing well and accepts a solvent or colorless blender for smooth gradients. Pair the range with Museum Aquarelle when a piece needs both dry and water-soluble passages.
Sets ship in metal or wood presentation boxes; every color in every set is also stocked individually, so a favorite can be replaced one pencil at a time.

Can I buy a single replacement pencil, or only sets?
All 100 colors are stocked individually. Open stock colors are listed above the sets so a single replacement is never more than one click away.
Are Luminance pencils water-soluble?
No. Luminance 6901 is a permanent wax-based pencil. For water-soluble work in the same drawer, look at Museum Aquarelle or Supracolor Soft Aquarelle.
How do the sets differ from buying the same colors open stock?
Sets are packaged selections in metal or wood boxes, chosen to cover a working palette. Buying open stock lets you build a custom palette or restock only what you use.
Do you sell direct to consumers, or only through retailers?
